Chocolate overnight oats recipe

My breakfasts recently have been rotating between chocolate porridge, chocolate smoothie bowls, and this gem, chocolate overnight oats. Do you see the theme here? Chocolate for breakfast has to be one of the best things. In fact, I'm most surprised to see that this is the first chocolate breakfast recipe I've shared on here. Cacao powder is a staple in my house, so much so that I now buy it in 1kg bags (much like my peanut butter addiction). It's such a magical ingredient with a divine, rich flavour. It's also perfect for making you feel like you are having dessert for breakfast, which is exactly what this recipe is all about. It tastes like pudding, creamy and with a wonderful chocolate flavour, but it's breakfast. Load on some nut butter, berries and granola in the morning for the most wonderful breakfast.

You will need: (serves 1)
1/2 cup oats
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 ripe banana
1 tablespoon cacao powder
3/4 cup milk of your choice (I use rice milk). Use less if you prefer a thicker consistency.
2 tablespoons soya yoghurt
A pinch of salt
Optional: 1/4 teaspoon vanilla essence or other flavouring

Mash the banana up in a bowl until it becomes nice and mushy.
- Add the cacao powder and a sprinkle of salt and combine together. Also add any flavouring at this stage if using.
- Add the oats, chia seeds, yoghurt and milk and mix together well
- Cover or transfer into an airtight container or jar. Pop in the fridge for a few hours or overnight.
- Serve with all the toppings! I recommend soya yoghurt, nut butter, granola and fresh fruit.
